This grand fortress sits atop a hill above Murcia City. The impressive structure has Moorish influences, and is very well preserved. Today, restoration and excavation works are being carried out here to delve deeper into its past.
There are huge underground reservoirs and storage rooms so that troops could hold out in a lengthy battle. It might have been a prison and a grain store at various times in history. From this height, you can soak in the fresh air, the vast views of the valley below and the hills on the horizon. It is an ideal location if you need some time away form the usual touristy activities.
