Costa Dorada or the Golden Coast gets its name from the golden sands of its beaches and the bright, sunny air of the region. The coastline stretches for 200 kilometres to the southwest of Barcelona and covers the southeastern border of the autonomous region of Catalonia. The coast features a very rich and diverse eco system: fine beaches, wild coves, mountains and in the plains, there are vineyards, olive plantations, and farmlands with various crops.
The long beaches are filled with dunes of fine sand with 786 hectares of extensive, clean, sandy beaches washed by the warm Mediterranean. The waters here are shallow making the beaches sae even for children. The beaches are also popular for all types of modern water sports and adventure sports.
The coast is family friendly and suitable for children with plenty of installations to keep them busy. With the recent addition of the Port Aventura Theme Park, the Costa attracts more tourists and has become one of the most popular travel destinations in Southern Spain. The theme park provides for two days of excitement and fun with its five themed lands (China, Polynesia, Mediterranean, Mexico and the Far West). There is also an exciting collection of roller coasters, water slides, live shows and countless budget-busting kiosks, gift shops, bars and restaurants.
Inland, the towns bordering the coast have become resort towns, feature world-class accommodation, and entertainment facilities. Most popular among them all is Salou, which has the most modern facilities, high rise buildings and hotels, bars, pubs and leisure facilities. The beaches of Salou offer the complete range of water sport; and at dusk, it's time for all night party people to come into their own. There are more than enough bars, clubs, cabarets and mega discos here to keep even the most hardened reveller happy till dawn.

It's an ideal holiday destination for families with young children as it offers good, safe sandy beaches and the popular Aquapolis Water Park. the park features daredevil chutes, lakes, kiddies' play areas and other entertainment including a dolphin show.
Cambrils, to the south of Salou is even quieter making it ideal for those who are in search of a relaxing and authentic Spanish experience. It retains much of its traditional Spanish charm and is the place to savour the delights of some of the finest fresh fish restaurants in Catalonia.
