The coastline of Murcia- The Costa Calida- stretches for 250 kilometers and comprises of rocky cliffs, caves, fine beaches, and the famous Mar Menor. The weather here is nice with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and an average annual temperature of 18ºC. The beaches of the Costa are relatively unknown. They retain their wild flavour and the cry of the seagulls and the buzzing of the cicada are sometimes the only sounds that break the luminous atmosphere. The Mar Menor is a natural and warm water lagoon, and a narrow strip of land separates it from Mediterranean. This is one of the best known features of Murcia and the one which attracts the most number of tourists to the region. It is also referred to as the ‘little sea’ and is a favourite among tourists for sports like
swimming, scuba-diving, water-skiing, wind-surfing, kite-surfing, sailing etc. It is also famed for the healing and therapeutic uses of its mud. The most well-known area for clay baths can be found at the northernmost tip of the lagoon, at la Puntica. Many people come to the coasts to get mud baths. There are also spas giving specialist treatments with the best of installations and trained staff.
La Manga Resort – This resort is on the Mar Menor where 1500 acres have been converted into outstanding leisure facilities, golf courses, hotels, health clubs, and several sporting facilities. It also features more than
40 blue flag beaches. The luxurious experience combined with all the adventure and action makes it a favourite destination among tourists. It is so famous that most of them head straight here from the airport.
