La Palma :: Canary Islands

la palma canary islands spain

Known as then ‘green island’, La Palma has the largest volcanic crater in the world Caldera de Taburiente. The landscape here is highly varied and colourful with black volcanic mountains surrounded by rich green woodlands and the white beaches lapped by the blue waters of the Atlantic. The island is also famous for its ancient water tunnels used to supply water to the cities from the mountains.

 The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de Palma which is dominated by the grand Caldera de Taburiente. the iglesia del Salvador and museum of natural sciences are a must see in the city.
The highest mountain on the island Roque de los Muchachos (2, 420 meters above sea level) has several international telescopic observatories on the summit.  Other places include the exotic woodland `El Canal y Los Tiles´.

Visit theme parks, such as the Garden of the Birds or the Maroparque, where you will enjoy learning all about the world’s flora and fauna. The beaches, in keeping with the rest of the canaries, are exotically alluring.

You can soak in the beauty of the area by walking through the numerous walkways, or on bike or horseback.

Delight your eyes with the spectacular views offered at the Caldera de Taburiente, a breathtaking sight that you can only see from the heights of the rugged crests surrounding it, which are as often as not, above the clouds.
