The only castle in Spain with as circular design, Bellver looks down on the Bay of Palma from the top of a hill. The 700 year old castle has three huge towers surrounding a central courtyard, connected by an arch to a free standing keep. The courtyard is divided in two levels- the ground floor with semicircular arches and a flat roof, the upper level with Gothic arches and rib-vaulting. Once the summer residence of the royal family, it was later used as a military prison.
The unique architectural style and the glorious view of the city below attract hundreds of visitors to the castle. Another attraction is the Palma Museum of Municipal History where the story of the city’s development can be seen from artefacts, with pottery from Talaiotic, Roman, Arab and Spanish periods can be seen. Concerts are also organized here occasionally.
